Age does not always matters to achieve water use efficiency at the leaf level

Our Master student Noelia Saavedra defended her thesis “Effects of ontogeny and water stress on stomatal regulation on different plant functional types”. Her findings highlight that carbon uptake per unit of water spent is lower on younger leaves on evergreen species with “expensive” long-lived leaves, but not on fast growing deciduous leaves. Her project defence was awarded “Sobresaliente” (excellent) by the evaluating panel of the University Rey Juan Carlos. Congratulations Noelia!
